01/03/08 @ Riverside 5:15pm        Lady Flashes 34        Lady Rams 30

Defense carries Flashes Gals to win number 4.
The Lady Flashes got eleven points from super freshman Sarah "Too Much" Muchowski and eight from senior Kiara "Kay-Boo" Boone but it was the defense that secured the win for the Flashes. Our Flashes Gals were out scored 9-6 in the first quarter, then matched the Lady Rams with eight in the second. With the defensive pressured turned up a notch, the Lady Flashes took the third quarter 8-6 and the fourth 12-7, not allowing the Lady Rams to reach double digits in any quarter. Although the defense is getting the job done, we still need the offense to gain a little more consistancy. Now that "Too Much" seems to have gotten comfortable in her position we need a few team mates to step up their scoring on a more consistant basis to take some of the offensive load off of our stellar freahman. We certainly have the potential in seniors "Kay-Boo" Boone and "Slick" Foulks, and sophomore "Sugar" Hightower in the starting five. There is also potential from the bench from sophomores Molly "Big Kate" Fitzpatrick and Stephanie "Two Names" Ogbonnaya. Juniors Erin "Sweets" Sweeney and Taylya "Lil Tee" Loran will always be contributing some offense as will sophomore Torrie "Big Tee" Povia and senior Elizabeth "EZ-Liz" Shaffer who are both returning from injuries. "Big Kate" had five points off the bench, "Slick" and "Big Tee" three each, "Sugar" " Sweets" two each to finish up the scoring. Two things that would really improve the scoring is better free throw shooting and making lay ups. If we can improve on these two basics, our offenseive output will certainly become more consistant. With such a young team, mistakes are expected but there's enough talent among them to easily produce two or even three players (besides "Too Much") that can give us double digit scoring on a regular basis. If (or when) that happens, the Flashes Gals will be very hard to beat.

01/29/08 @ Home 6:00pm    Family Appreciation Day Game            Lady Flashes 50                   Lady Rams 31

Florence rams Riverside; Freshman Sarah "Too Much" Muchowski puts in 16 (4 treys) to lead the Flashes Gals come from behind victory. "Come from behind"? Yep! The Lady Flashes were behind 22-20 at the half.

The Flashes Gals managed to overcome some first quarter sluggishness and atroucious officiating to storm ahead and blew the Lady Rams out of the gym in the second half. Yeah, I know we won, so why bash the refs? Well. because they were horrible, it's not a matter of win or lose, it's a matter of proper officiating.
The Lady Rams jumped out to a four point lead (10-6) in the first quarter as the Lady Flashes were sluggish after a four day layoff. But they began a steady come back (slowed by the horrible officiating) and took the second quarter 14-12. The second half was all Florence. Senior guard Jessie "Slick" Foulks had kept the Flashes in the first half with her slick passes and scoring 10 points. In the third quarter junior forward Erin "Sweets" Sweeney (8 points) and sophomore center Stephanie "Two Names " Allison (7 points), began to flex a little muscle, especially on defense as the Lady Flashes went ahead 36-26 out scoring their opponents 16-4. The final quarter saw much of the same as the Flahes Gals kept up the pace. Senior Forward Kiara "Kay Boo" Boone (6 points) elevated her defensive effort to match the offensive effort of freshman star "Too Much" Muchowski who put in three of her four treys in the fourth quarter. Defense was the key, in the first period the Flashes Gals were a little tentive as the whistle seemed to blow at the slightest touch by a white uniform. But the reserves came in and, although they didn't contribute much to the offense (Torrie "Big Tee" Povia 2 points), they were awsome on "D" and didn't let the Lady Rams extend their lead in the first half or catch up in the second half.

The JV Gals also victorious as they bested their counterparts 39-29. Just to qualify my position on officiating, in the JV game the Flashes Gals did not benefit from 1 foul call the entire second half. Thats right, Riverside was not called for a foul (none, nada, zilch zero), they played PERFECT basketball the entire half. Hmmm.Florence on the other hand was in the penalty situation before the end of the third period.
