Lady Flashes get it done, defeat Lady Warriors to open the season with a victory.

Despite a slow start (two points in the first quarter), the Lady Flashes managed to hold off the Lady Warriors and eke out a one point 23-22 win. Although they only scored two points in the first quarter the Lady Flashes held their opponents scorless during the period and so began the second quarter with a two point lead. They won the second  quartrer 9-8 to end the half up by three and out scored the Lady Warriors 11-4 in the third quarter for a ten point lead. The Lady Warriors came storming back in the final period out scoring our Lady Flashes 10-1 to reduce the margin of victory to one point.

The Lady Flashes were lead by senior guard Jessica "Slick" Foulks (10 points) and freshman guard Sarah "Too Much" Muchowski (6 points). Sophomore forward Molly "Big Kate" Fitzpatrick chipped in 3 points and senior Kiara "Kay Boo" Boone and junior Erin "Sweets" Sweeney contributed two each to finish up the scoring.

With the loss of their two 1,000 point scorers and their all star point guard to graduation last year, it's obvious that the Lady Flashes are going to struggle a bit in the early part of the season as they work some new players into the offensive scheme. The bulk of the scoring this year will undoubtedly come from senior guard Jessica Foulks, but senior forward Kiara Boone, sophomore forward Molly Fitzpatrick and freshman guard Sarah Muchchowski are expected to become regular contributers if the Lady Flashes want to make it to the playoffs. Until they get used to the offense and each other, Coach Cip will probably have to rely on the extra good defense that provided this victory to keep his young troope in the hunt.

"Too Much" takes aim on the basket

Flashes Gals bring the whole squad in win over Lady Warriors. Using his bench to perfection, Coach Cip got outstanding play from the entire squad as the Lady Flashes jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. lead by freshman guard Sarah "Too Much" Muchowski, the Lady Flashes took the first quarter 10-6. Sophomores Stephanie "Two Names" Allison and Molly "Big Kate" Fitzpatrick who started in place of junior Erin "Sweets" Sweeney and sophomore Chakera "Sugar" Hightower teamed up with "Too Much", and seniors Kiara "Kay Boo" Boone and Jessie "Slick" Foulks who returned from an injury suffered in the Bordentown game to begin the defensive pressure that actully defined the whole game. The Flashes Gals stepped it up a notch in the second quarter and third quarters as sophomores Torie "Big Tee" Povia and "Sugar" and senior Elizabeth "E-Z Liz" Shaffer played fantastic ball off the bench. The Lady Flashes took the second quarter 12-4 to go up by 12 at the half and then really put it together in with a 14-3 third quarter to up the lead to 23. The last quarter saw coach Cip clear his bench, giving all of his young players some valueable playing time. The Lady Warriors sought to use that to their advantage and managed to put in 13 points in the quarter (matching what they scored in the previous 3), but it didn't matter. Led by freshmen Dezaree "Dez" Fillmyre and Manissa "Go Gurl" Blackwell, sophomores, Erin "Nees" Stockhouse and Shannon "Silk" Adubato and junior Talaya "Lil Tee" Loran they put up 14 points in the quarter to match the output in the third quarter. And although the Lady Warriors did score 13, most came in the early part of the quarter before the subs got into their defensive rhythem. It was good to see the bench respond to the call, and it was great to see the return of the "Slick". Although she only scored 2 points, the leadership, defense and ball handling she brings is always a big part of the Lady Flashes success. Joining "Too Much in the scoring column were "Kay Boo" with 7 points, "Two Names" with 7 points, "Big Kate" and "Big Tee" with 5 each, "Dez" with 4, "E-Z Liz" and "Sugar" 3 apiece and "Slick" and "Nees" with 2 each.

JV Game

Not to be out done, the JV team put together a defensive gem of their own. Led by "Dez" Filmyer, "Silk" Adubato, "Nees" Stockhaus and "Go Gurl" Blackwell, the junior Flashes Gals smothered the junior Lady Warriors 36-10. The juniors also got started early with and up tempo swarming defense that produced a 9-0 lead. Then with "Dez" and "Nees" hitting from outside and "Silk" and "Go Gurl" owning the paint, it was "no contest" from there as the Flashes Gals just continued to build their lead to the end of the game.
