01/25/08 @ Holy Cross 5:00pm Lady Flashes 29 Lady Lancers 39
"Sugar" goes up for a rebound
The score is not indicative of the game! The Lady Flashes put up a real fight and were in the game until they were forced to foul in the last few minutes of the game. The Lady Lancers used the quickness of their guards to throttle the Flashes Gals front court players for much of the game. However, the Lady Flashes countered with superior play down low as forwards "Sugar" Hightower, "Kay Boo" Boone and "Two Names" Allison combined for 21 of the Flashes Gals 29 points. "Sugar" led the Lady Flashes with 11 points, but it was her rebounding and toughness in the paint that was a big factor in keeping the Flashes Gals in the game. "Kay Boo" (6 points) and "Two Names" (4 points) were also tough on the boards and stellar on defense, keeping a tall talented Lady Lancer front court at bay the whole game. Both "Sugar" and "Kay Boo" had to leave the game with injuries in the fourth quarter in the middle of a Flashes Gals run when they were down by only two points. The Lady Lancers still couldn't get a big lead however and the score remained close until the last minute and a half when the Flashes Gals were forced to foul to try to get the ball. Unfortunately the Lancers were good on the foul line and the tactic didn't work in our favor. But for a few bad passes and two missed calls (this was probably the best officiated game I've seen in South Jersey), the Flashes Gals might well have won this one.
Highlight of the game: a tremendous 3/4 court buzzer beater by freshman guard Sarah "Too Much" Muchowski (8 points) at the half to bring the Flashes Gals within two 17-15
The Junior Flashes Gals suffered much of the same fate, playing without the services of gaurd Talaya "Lil Tee" Loran and with reserve forward Shavonne "Chevy" Jenkins just returning from an ankle injury limited in playing time, the under maned Junior Lady Flashes also went down to defeat.
